Parent Coach

  • Do slammed doors, like exclamation points, punctuate your conversations?
  • Are recorded messages from automated attendance machines a daily event?
  • Do you avoid talking with other parents who seem to do everything right?

As your coach, I will help you find the subtle balance between staying close and letting go as your teenager comes of age; of providing the roots and allowing the wings your young person needs to live his or her own empowered life. Email me to set up a free, 45-minute phone session. You don’t have to do this alone.

One of the most difficult parts of parenting a teen is that his adolescence comes at a time when you are making an equally significant transition. Your mid-life can be daunting as you re-examine your values, re-evaluate your choices, grieve losses or address feelings of being trapped or over-burdened. These issues can get in the way of effective parenting. While you yearn for the closeness you had with your child when she was younger, you may actually be unaware of how you are contributing to conflict between you now. As you “come of age” as a parent, there’s a pull to give up. Instead, let me help you re-focus on the parenting role in such as way as to learn and grow with your teenager!

As your coach, you will have my whole-hearted enthusiasm and encouragement to create the life you want as an individual and as the parent of your teenager. You lead the show as we co-create the family you envision. We will laugh, cry, dig deep and have fun.
I have the gift of seeing others’ magnificence and I will help you see yours and make that the base of all the work we do together.

Are you ready for a coach?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, you can benefit from having a parent coach:

  • Do you see yourself reacting emotionally when a more considered or logical approach would work better with your teen?
  • Are you at a transition phase of your life that is impacting your parenting?
  • Can you see how you want your family life to be, but don’t know how to get there?
  • Would getting clear about the values you hold most dear help you as a person and as a parent?
  • Do you feel stuck in perspectives that are pushing your teenager away?
  • Do you ever say, to others or yourself, “my kids are the most important people in my life” yet have trouble making time to spend with them?
  • Are you ready to spend some focused attention on being a more effective parent with your teen?

Things I might ask in an initial call:

  • What brings you to coaching at this time?
  • What have you heard about coaching?
  • Why did you contact me (as opposed to another coach)?
  • Have you ever worked with a coach, therapist or counselor to get support?
  • How was that for you? What worked well? What didn’t work well?
  • What relationship do you envision with your child when she becomes an independent adult?
  • If your teenager could articulate how he feels about you, what would he say are your strengths? Your weaknesses?
  • Do you agree? Disagree?
  • In your opinion, what are the strengths and weaknesses of your teen?
  • What gets in the way of you being as close as you want to be with your teenager?
  • Describe a perfect day with your teen.

Ongoing coaching
Ongoing coaching is $250 per month for four, 45-minute sessions and unlimited emailing between sessions for one person. This requires a minimum commitment of twelve sessions. I will work with co-parents on an alternating basis (for example, each parent gets coached every other week). I generally do not work with two parents on the same coaching call.

Six Session Coaching Package ($550)
This package includes six, one-hour sessions with a focused structure to support an investigation of yourself as an individual and as a parent. This package requires a commitment for six sessions.

  • 1st session; clearing emotions; where things are at right now
  • 2nd session; visioning the future for yourself as individual and yourself as parent; personal and family values
  • 3rd session; old and new perspectives
  • 4th session; fulfillment
  • 5th session; change
  • 6th session; ongoing plan

Three Session Coaching Package ($325)
This package includes three, one-hour sessions to focus on a particular issue you are having as a parent or with your teenager and requires a commitment for all three sessions. We will investigate various perspectives about the issue based on your most cherished values and develop a specific action plan to address it in a way that works for you and your family. Then, you will have my support to implement the plan and evaluate the outcome.
